The complete Apple Mac history from start to current.

1970s
The Mac (Macintosh) project was started by Jef Raskin.

The Mac team devised a innovative chipset which could support a 256 x 256 pixel back and white display.

1980s
By December 1980 the team had worked out how to support a 9-inch, 512×342 pixel monochrome display. It also had more RAM than any other competing model – making it the quickest PC of it’s type.

1984
Mac launches it’s US$1.5 million Ridley Scott television commercial during the super bowl commercials. Two days later it goes on sale.
Lotus released software for the MAC to enable business professionals to use it to go about their working day.

1985
Apple releases software to enable desktop publishing. Users could create text and graphics and print them directly to a laser printer. They were the first to accomplish this.

1986
Apple released the Macintosh Plus on January 10, 1986 for US$2,600 – with an increased amount of memory.

1990
Microsoft release a usable and more cost effective alternative to the macintosh platform.

1998
Steve Jobs returns to the company and Apple focus on selling their product by style. The iMAC all in one pc is on sale.

Current
Apple has seen a significant boost its sales of Macs mainly due to the success of the iPod. Many marketing professionals believe that they created a halo effective – satisfied customers purchased more Apple products.

Apple reported sales of 3.36 million Macs during the 2009 holiday season.
